introduction to digital studio fall 2018

This page will track our goals and work to the calendar. As instructor, I reserve the right to make adjustments to the calendar to improve our experience this term. Any changes will be thoroughly communicated during class and posted here within.

week 01 (week of JAN 8)

  • File types/Saving native files and exporting
  • Intro to first area of study: Photoshop
  • Images and Resolution - resolution for working, print resolution, web resolution

The general rule is that anything assigned this week is due before classes begin the following week.

  • set blog and and drive folder directions on the class projects page
  • get a portable drive, you will be graded, see syllabus for details
  • read the New Media Art wikipedia entry and Introduction Chapter of New Media Art PDF by Mark Tribe. Write a 500 word essay in response to the readings. Respond to this prompt: How is New Media both inclusive and exclusive of the traditional media?
    Please look here for details to the essay requirements. To turn in: Please use your essay to make a post on your newly minted blog (first post). Put a copy in your Google drive too (please make a week 1 folder).
  • Watch Compositing Videos Compositing One    Compositing Two  Compositing Tres  Compositing Four
  • Chapter E. (selections) from the Atomic Learning module on Photoshop https://www.atomiclearning.com/highed/pscs5mac_intro
    If you are logged into my.uwf.edu search for Atomic Learning and then you can use the link above
  • Assemble a "library" of images at least 300ppi (minimum 10, up to 20 images). Use the images from this library to make 3 practice photomontages. Photomontages must use these settings: RGB-8, 8 x 8 inches, 300ppi. Put library and the 3 Photoshop docs (.PSD) in your Week 1 folder on Google Drive.
  • Second blog post. Export photomontages as jpegs at 500px x 500px, Quality 60. Please make a blog post with these exports.
  • Third blog post- Write a post on your ideas for the Photomontage formal project
